Bombay House

I have family in town tonight and one of my favorite things about having family visit is taking them to new restaurants. My sister loves Indian food and hadn’t had any in a long while so I took them to Bombay House.

I forewarned them that the servers have a very dry sense of humor and rarely crack a smile when joking. I’ve been to Bombay House a number of times and watched friends squirm as the server sternly told them “no” when they asked if they could have more water or answered some other question in a surprising way. Tonight the servers were all so busy they didn’t seem to have time for humor, though.

We ordered three dishes and shared them (the best way to go with Indian, in my opinion). We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken Tikka, and the Chicken Makhani.

The Chicken Tikka Masala is a classic favorite that is ordered by at least one person about every time I go. According to their menu: boneless chicken barbecued in tandoor oven, then cooked with bellpepper, onions, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, cream and spices.

The Tandoori Chicken Tikka isn’t served in a sauce like the others but is more like a skillet or stir fry. It’s cooked in a clay oven and contains the following: boneless chicken breast marinated in yogurt, garlic, ginger and spices, barbecued over tandoor (clay oven).

The best dish of the night, in my opinion, was the Chicken Makhani. It’s the same basic boneless chicken dish as many of the others (like the Masala above) but the seasonings and flavor were fantastic. The menu says: boneless tandoori chicken cooked with onions, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, cashewnuts, cream and spices.

From previous trips to Bombay House I can also recommend the Chicken Coconut Kurma and Raj’s Chicken. All of the flat breads are excellent and the Lassis are great yogurt smoothies that you should try. I had Strawberry but my sister was feeling adventurous and ordered the Sweet Lassi which has rose water blended in. It was good, but it tastes exactly like a rose smells. Be prepared to feel like you have a dozen long stem roses in your mouth!
