Settebello
Closed Published by heastman September 12th, 2010 in **** (Four Stars), Decent, Italian, ReasonableSettebello is definitely not new to the scene. It’s been around for a few years now and has received some great accolades and a steady flow of patrons. For whatever reason, it has been a while since I’ve been there, so I decided to take Carley last night (her first time). It was just as good as I remembered. They serve what’s called Vera Pizza Napoletana… a traditional way of cooking pizza that requires that makers use only specific raw ingredients to create the pizza dough, that the dough be worked with the hands, never using a rolling pin and that it be cooked directly on the surface of a bell shaped pizza oven that is fueled solely by wood. The charter also requires specific types of tomatoes be used and only the use of fresh milk or buffalo milk mozzarella is acceptable. Amen to those rules because the pizza is amazing. We decided on the classic Margherita pizza and were very happy with our choice.
We also tried an antipasta that was new to the menu. It’s called Involtini di Prosciutto. Yummy. Prosciutto Crudo wrapped around baby arugola and goat cheese, topped with goat cheese, shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano, balsamic reduction and extra virgin olive oil. By the end of the night, we were definitely full, and went home with happy bellies.
Royal India
4 Comments Published by heastman September 10th, 2010 in **** (Four Stars), Crap, Indian, ReasonableThis is at least a once-a-month favorite for us. The restaurant is small, quaint and appropriately decorated. As far as Indian cuisine in Salt Lake, Bombay House definitely gets a lot of attention, which is fine because it means no crowd at Royal India. The food is arguably the best Indian food in Salt Lake. The classics here are awesome… Tikka Masala, Coconut Kurma, Butter Chicken, and my personal favorite, Chicken Saag. On 13th East at about 10000 South, Royal India is definitely worth a trip to Sandy.
Tandoor Indian Grill
Closed Published by Brett July 11th, 2009 in **** (Four Stars), Indian, ReasonableI confess that I had low expectations for the Tandoor Indian Grill, mainly because of its location. Restaurants at 700 E and 3300 S have been mediocre at best, in my opinion. The corner spot has been home to a Gandolfo’s sandwich shop, a Mexican cafe, a sushi place, and who knows what other restaurants, none of which has lasted very long. Tandoor Indian Grill isn’t in the corner spot, though. It’s a few doors down and maybe that’s all it takes to succeed.
Insert a three month delay…
I’m realizing I never finished this post. I’ll summarize by saying it’s worth going to. Not as good as Bombay House, but still good.
Address: 3300 South 729 East

1 Comment Published by Brett March 8th, 2009 in *** (Three Stars), Expensive, LebaneseThis post is for Rob, who’s been utterly disappointed by my lack of commitment to this blog. It isn’t that I’ve lost the passion for trying new restaurants, I’ve just not made enough time to actually write about them. Until now.
The Tin Angel
1 Comment Published by Brett August 12th, 2008 in **** (Four Stars), American, Deli/Bakery, ReasonableI’ve been wanting to write about The Tin Angel for a few months now. It’s located in an unlikely spot next to a scooter store, across the street from the southwest corner of Pioneer park. When I tell people where it’s located, it’s evident they’ve never noticed a restaurant there. This may be one of the reasons The Tin Angel is relatively unknown. With food this good, though, it can’t remain a secret forever.
